On 12 March 2022 Mauritius celebrated its 54th Independence Day and its 30th Republic Day. This year, owing to COVID-19 and the existing sanitary protocols in the country, the National Day – which marks both the Independence and the Republic day – was celebrated at the State House in Réduit.
A flag raising ceremony was held on the 12 March 2022 at the State House in Réduit. Were present at the Flag Raising ceremony, His Excellency Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, the President of the Republic of Mauritius, and the Hon Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister. It is with great pride and respect that the “quadricolor” (the Mauritian Flag) was hoisted high up the mast and the National Anthem was played by the Police Band.

To mark the National Day, the President and Members of AHEAD gathered at its Head Office at Royal Road, Amitié together with a few members, volunteers and friends to celebrate the event in sobriety at noon on the 12th of March 2022. It was time to reflect on the Mauritian journey from 12 March 1968, the Independence Day of Mauritius, to 12 March 1992 when Mauritius acceded to the status of Republic.
