Saturday 21 April 2018 – Submerged under waters…

This video depicts flood in Amitié. This happened on Saturday 21 April 2018. It is terrific! It’s not one more clip expressing the caprices of nature in Mauritius. i.e. Flood. It’s a real national and local problem that authorities seem to fail to address properly in a sustainable manner. Year in, Year out the problem worsens! Some sustainable solution is most require.

Topography:
Amitié has always been the prey of flood waters. Practically each year the village is under flood pressure. Roads are blocked and damaged. Sugar cane fields, yards and houses are flooded, yards are submerged under waters and water streams will continue to flows months later, after the passage of floods. The situation has worsened. The drainage systems is inappropriate.

Location:
Amitié (20.1106° S, 57.6708° E) is situated in the north-east of Mauritius. It is locked within the boundaries of neighbouring villages called Gokoolah, Mon Loisir and Belle Vue Maurel. Amitié is in the Rivière du Rempart district.

The question is:
Where are our drains?
When will the flood problem be addressed in a sustainable manner in L’Amitié?
