96% of our garbage is domestic!

In 2016, 96% of all our garbage was domestic! 428, 032 tonnes is the actual figure. This is equivalent to 352 kg/person. Only 4% of the total solid waste was generated from other sources (industrial and other). This is what was reported by Statistics Mauritius in June 2017. The total of solid waste produced by Mauritians weighed 444,695 tonnes. That was dumped at Mare Chicose Landifll. It’s high time for us to become conscious of our consumption preferences and pattern, and also of our disposal choices!
